SCCM Connector synchronization bug prevents successful synchronization if software version information is not correctly formatted

• Update Rollup 6 for System Center 2012 SP1 included a fix in Configuration Manager (SCCM) connector to ensure consistency of software install counts across Service Manager (SCSM) and Configuration Manager (SCCM). This fix included some additional logic to compare the software version information as reported by SCCM, against the data already stored in the SCSM database. This was done to appropriately handle updates to the DeviceHasSoftwareItemInstalled property. However, if the version information reported by SCCM does not follow standard versioning practices the equality check fails causing SCCM connector synchronization to abort. This issue does not impact any other functionality in SM.
  
  If you are impacted by this issue, SCCM connector synchronization will fail with the following error information logged to the event log.
  
  Exception type:ArgumentException
  Exception message:Version string portion was too short or too long..
  StackTrace: at System.Version.TryParseVersion(String version, VersionResult& result)

• Before you update:
  Exit all Service Manager-related applications before you apply this cumulative update. For example, exit the Service Manager Console, the Self-Service Portal links, and the authoring tool
  
  To install this update, follow these steps:
  1. Download the cumulative update to a target folder. This cumulative update contains both the x86 version and the x64 version. Download the appropriate version for your system.
  2. Open the target folder and right-click the SCSM2012_OD_KB2970642_AMD64_7.5.2905.188.exe file or the SCSM2012_OD_KB2970642_i386_7.5.2905.188.exe file, and then click Run as administrator
  3. Accept the Microsoft Software License Terms, and then follow the steps in the installation wizard
  
  How to verify a successful installation of this cumulative update
  1. In Control Panel, open Programs and Features.
  2. Click View installed updates.
  3. The following item is listed: Hotfix for Microsoft System Center 2012 Service Pack 1 - Service Manager (KB2970642)
